Cross-cutting skills are key for today's learners, UAM-backed study says Cross-cutting skills are key for today's learners, UAM-backed study says ========================================================================== CIVIS Highlights 17 November 2025 The Universidad Autónoma de Madrid has participated in the preparation of the most comprehensive study on university employability and university-business relations carried out in Spain to date. One of the key findings of the study is the importance of the cross-cutting skills demanded by the labour market, a variable that has become an essential element of studies on the professional integration of graduates in the European Higher Education Area. ![](https://civis.eu/storage/files/highlight-november-2025_1.jpg)©UAMBuilt up in seven chapters, *University Talent and Business: assessment of profiles, recruitment and the future of employment in Spain* brings together the perspectives of almost 7,000 Spanish companies on the training, skills and profiles of university graduates. The project involved the participation of more than 50 public and private universities, representing an unprecedented inter-institutional collaboration effort in Spain. The report analyses key aspects such as university-business relations, talent selection processes and future recruitment forecasts. Its preparation using a rigorous common methodology provides a shared empirical basis for advancing the improvement of employability, curriculum design and the strengthening of the link between higher education and the business community. A comprehensive overview ------------------------ The labour market integration of Spanish university graduates remains at high levels, and universities have made employability one of their main strategic objectives, as reflected in the wide range of guidance services offered to students. Activities aimed at improving employability seek to facilitate the transition from the education system to the labour market in a context of rapid transformation. The report highlights that there are multiple collaboration strategies that strengthen the university-business relationship, such as technology parks, dual degrees, chairs, and territorial development centres. This relationship is clearly defined and endorsed by current legislation, which grants businesses a strategic role in the activities of higher education institutions. The study, published by McGraw-Hill Spain in collaboration with CRUE, is available in both paper and digital formats. The research team wanted to ensure open access to the study, thus the digital edition is intended to facilitate consultation and reinforce its usefulness as a tool for analysis and support in strategic decision-making in the academic and business spheres.
